Gestational Diabetes Screening Test

Important information regarding your 1-hour glucose screening test during pregnancy.

Please follow these instructions carefully. The 1-hour glucose screening test is typically performed between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Before Your Test

  • Eat a normal breakfast or lunch before your appointment.
  • Avoid excessive sugar and carbohydrates.
  • Do not consume soda, fruit juice, candy, or sugary cereals.
  • Refrain from eating for at least 2 hours before your test.
  • Schedule your lab appointment as soon as you receive your order.

Test Day Instructions

  • Do not open your drink or tablets container until instructed by the lab.
  • Consume your glucose drink/tablet within 5 minutes.
  • No food or drink after consuming the glucose drink/tablet.
  • Lab draw timing is critical — remain at the lab until your blood is drawn.

Important: A failed 1-hour screening requires a 3-hour fasting glucose tolerance test. Your provider will contact you with next steps if needed.

As the premier OB/GYN practice in the county, our providers are in high demand, and we only offer a set number of appointment slots each day. We never double-book. Unless an unexpected emergency arises on our end, 95% of our patients are seen on time, every time. We deeply respect your time, just as we do our own.

Where do you deliver?


We deliver at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, located at 3625 University Blvd S, Jacksonville, FL 32216. This outstanding facility offers state-of-the-art labor and delivery suites, advanced neonatal care, compassionate nursing staff, and a family-centered birthing experience designed to make your delivery as safe and comfortable as possible. We are also pleased to offer quarterly Stork Tours for expectant mothers, a wonderful opportunity to familiarize yourself with the facility before your big day.
